Hi

My name is Dr Jo Nash.

I love teaching Science subjects and am passionate about students achieving their true potential regardless of the starting point. I have worked and lived with teenagers for over 30 years and enjoy helping them. I am an experienced science teacher, having taught from KS3 to final year degree students. Surprisingly, I prefer GCSE and A level and specialise in GCSE Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Combined Science and A level Biology and Chemistry. I taught many different specifications over the years, was an AQA examiner at GCSE, A level and Advanced Extension Award (AEA) for over 5 years, before becoming the AQA Applied Science Subject Officer. Therefore, I know and understand the examination system inside out.

More recently, I have specialised in private tuition and working with differently able students (autistic, dyslexic and ADHD to name a few). None of my students have failed an exam and they normally improve by at least 2 grades.

Achievements

With my support and my students hard work, with over 2,000 GCSE Science students only 2 students have achieved a D grade, the rest have all been higher.  Since the change to 9-1 grades, none of my tutees have achieved less than a grade 6.  In the early 90s, my first A level set with my support and encouragement all improved or matched their GCSE grades.  Normally, it is expected that they will drop at least one grade.  Last year, an A level Chemistry student was predicted an E. In 6 months we improved it to a B, so he was able to go to the university of his choice.  Another student was expelled or removed from 8 schools before he was 15.  I worked with him for 3 years and he achieved 5 GCSEs. He now has a full-time job as a gas and electrical engineer.

What I offer

Currently I offer online lessons in all three sciences to GCSE and A level Biology and Chemistry.  This is working far better than I expected. The students get a full hour of tuition, instead of 45-50 minutes that are achieved in their own home in an hour.

If you are interested in private tutoring, please contact me.

Due to Covid and lockdowns, many students have large gaps in their knowledge. I have many good students and only a few spaces left for private tutoring. Therefore, to help more students, I am offering online workshops. These will each be an hour long and limited to 10 students, so everyone benefits. At only £10 a workshop, they are more financially viable for those struggling in the current economic situation.
